I actually don't know what I did any differently, except that this short story was more grounded and realistic than my usual fantasy genre - that and I found it kinda inspiring (plotwise).
Here is the email I wrote and the one I got back:

My name is Beaulah Pragg and I am twenty one years old. I recently graduated from Canterbury University and I am working towards getting some of my writing published. So far, I have completed the draft of my first novel and one of my short stories, Bastet, recieved an honorable mention from the online magazine Allegory.
